Welcome to the home of the Yukon Bluegrass Music Society and the 6th Annual Kluane Mountain Bluegrass Festival. The festival will be held 13-15 June 2008 in the village of Haines Junction -160 kilometers (100 miles) west of Whitehorse on the Alaska Highway. Haines Junction is nestled at the foot of the spectacular St. Elias Mountains and Kluane National Park. This spectacular setting is known for putting people in a grand mood with its splendid blend of mountains, midnight sun, and top bluegrass music.
The festival is presented in the grand hall of the St. Elias Convention Centre and St. Christopher's Anglican Church. Dennis Franz, the technical director of the Edmonton Folk Festival, is back to add his sound mixing magic in the theatre. In addition to more than 40 hours of concerts, we feature a country family dance on Saturday night starring Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper. Get ready to two-step, polka and country swing and dance your heart away. Michael Cleveland is the premier bluegrass fiddler in the world, having won the IBMA fiddler of the year award 4 times. Instrument and vocal workshops happen Saturday and Sunday morning, so there dust off your acoustic instruments. You can also learn to play at our slow jam, designed for beginners to have fun and learn simple bluegrass styles. Or if you are a little braver, you can join in the open mic stage on Saturday morning. Sunday morning is the most popular event of the festival – the all-acoustic gospel concert at the church. This year we will be presenting concurrent concerts in the Grand Hall and St. Christopher’s Anglican Church Saturday afternoon and evening. By popular demand, we will also present gospel concerts Sunday morning in both venues. Come to Haines Junction for a weekend of bluegrass and old time acoustic music, you will be royally entertained - that’s our guarantee! |
